Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan

Basic Law

The Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan was adopted on 6 November 1994 and amended two times, in September 26, 1999 and June 22, 2003. The Constitution has the highest legal power, direct application (Article 10) and supremacy on the whole territory of Tajikistan. The Constitution proclaims the establishment of a democratic, legal, secular and unitary State (Article 1), where the State power is based on the principle of separation of powers (Article 9). As the fundamental law of the State, the Constitution defines the structure of the government, basic rights, liberties and responsibilities of its citizens, as well as the powers of the legislative, executive and judicial branches.

National Emblem

In December 11, 1999, Majlisi Oli (Parliament) of the Republic of Tajikistan approved by its decree the States Symbol of the Republic of Tajikistan. 
 During the decree, the flag and the emblem of Tajikistan are symbols of state sovereignty.

on the National Emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan

 1. The National Emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan is a symbol of the state sovereignty of the Republic of Tajikistan.

 2. The National Emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan is a representation of a styled crown and a semi-circle of seven stars above it, in the rays of sun rising from behind mountains covered with snow. The semi-circle is nimbed by a diadem consisting, on the right, of wheat spikes, and on the left, of cotton branches with opened bolls. Above, the diadem is woven by a three-color band; the lower part occupied by an open book on a holder.

National Anthem of the Republic of Tajikistan

 The National Anthem of the Republic of Tajikistan, as a symbol of the statehood of a sovereign, democratic, legal state, is an exponent of the inviolability of the friendship and brotherhood of all the peoples and nationalities of the country. It is a sacred duty of every citizen to duly respect the Law "On the National Anthem of the Republic of Tajikistan".

National Flag

  The National Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan is a symbol of the national sovereignty of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The National Flag represents a square banner with the three colored stripes on it: the upper stripe is red and is as wide as the lower green one. The stripe in the middle is white and is one and a half wider than the other two. Half way from the flag post, the white stripe represents a styled crown in gold and a semi-circle of seven stars above it. The proportion of the flag's width to its length is 1:2.

National Currency

The national currency of Tajikistan is Somoni – TJS.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated 26 October 2000, # 415 putting into circulation of a  national currency of the country from 30 October 2000 – “Somoni”, called in honour of the founder of the first centralized state of Tajiks Ismoil Somoni (849-907), has been announced. Thus, the paper currency with value of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 Somoni and its small change with value of 1, 5, 20, 50 diram have been put into circulation.
